Sunday School

St. Luke's offers weekly Christian Education opportunities for youth in pre-school through the adult ages.

2011 Sunday School Kids with Pastor Carl

Children's Sunday School - 10:30am every Sunday morning
Pre-schoolers through sixth graders are invited to Sunday School at 10:30am every Sunday morning.

In 2010, the Sunday school children faithfully brought their offering each week and at the end of the year they had collected $160. Traditionally, the kid's donate their offering and this year the Education Board thought that they would share with you what the children decided to do with their offering.

In a group discussion, a list of charitable organizations that were important to each of the children was made; places like St. John's Shelter for Women and Children, SPCA, Foster Youth Services, and the American Cancer Society. The children then voted for their favorite and decided to donate their offering to the American Cancer Society and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

About 75% of the children have had their lives directly impacted by cancer with either a parent, grandparent, close relative or friend having the disease. Amber Mansfield shared with us that her reason for picking the American Cancer Society was because of her grandmother's friend who had cancer. Micayla Shower spoke about her father and her family and how they were impacted. You all may remember that Chris is in remission from lymphoma. Lastly, Isabella Basquez spoke about her cousin who is battling leukemia and just learned that she has been selected for a Make-A-Wish trip.

As you can tell, we have some wonderfully giving children at St. Luke's. The Education Board thanks you for continuing to keep the promise we made to each one of them when they were baptized into our family.

Adult Sunday School - 9:15am every Sunday morning

  • The Screwtape Letters a study of the C. S. Lewis book The Screwtape Letters. These letters are from an uncle, who is a minor devil of Satan, to his nephew Wormwood on how to mess up Christians and any other religious order. These letters are delightful to read and with Pastor Carl leading us it should be a new way to look at our faith. Please join us on Sunday at 9:15am in Room 3.
  • God has an app for that! Life App Bible Study In the fast paced world that we live in, it seems as though our phone has an application - AKA "app" for every thing in our daily lives. The Alarm Clock App can tell you what time to wake up but it can't make you get up. The Diet App can count calories for you but it can't stop you from eating too much. It is the same for God's word. James conveyed this to us when he stated: "But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." (James 1:22) This small group bible study focuses on common life experiences and how to apply God's word to our lives - topic by topic. We leverage a variety of study guides to pave our way. You are invited to join us! If you have any further questions, feel free to con-tact Melissa Jensen. We look forward to having you! Life App Bible Study meets every Sunday at 9:15 in Room 4.

On another note the Crossways study groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays are studying Crossways International's 30-unit "broad brush" study of the Bible entitled "The Divine Drama". Sessions will be held September through May. Dr. Harry Wendt will share with us each week on DVD and then we will have exciting and sometimes life-changing discussions!. We look forward to having you join either one or both of these groups.

Also, look for other Christian education opportunities at St. Luke's during the year, as St. Luke's never rests! See the Small Studies page here.
